Palma Sola boat ramp to close Jan. 1st for up to 6 months

Boat ramp to close Jan 1st for safety upgrades and renovations

MANATEE COUNTY – Palma Sola boat ramp, 9800 Manatee Ave. West, will be closed for up to six months for repairs and minor upgrades beginning Jan. 1.

Alan Lai Hipp, Manatee County's Environmental Program Manager, said a recent County inspection revealed an increased accumulation of sand causing shallow conditions within and at the end of the boat ramp making launching and landing difficult, especially during low tides. During the project docks will be lowered and modified to prevent similar sand buildup in the future. Also during the project:

  • The parking lot will be graded and smoothed.
  • There will be minor landscaping and cleanup of the grounds.
  • The County will begin design and permitting work for a future redesign and possible expansion of the boat ramp in the future.

During the Palma Sola closure boaters can use the County's other boat ramps located throughout the County.
