Water outages, boil water notices

The following water outages or boil water notices are currently in effect.

7.8.13 Water Off/Precautionary Boil Water Notice For DeSoto Square Villas

Manatee County Utilities Department has issued a Precautionary Boil Water notice for our customers between 301 Blvd. W to 30th Ave. W. from 9th St W to 3rd St. W. (Desoto Square Villas).

Valve replacement is scheduled for Tuesday, July, 09, 2013. The water will be shut off from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Customers are advised that once service is restored, all water used for drinking or cooking should be boiled as a precaution. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

This precautionary notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey has shown the water to be safe, normally 24-48 hours*. A Rescission Notice will be issued when lifted. If residents have any questions they may call 941-792-8811 ext: 5268 between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or (941)747-HELP, (941)747-4357 after 5:00 p.m. or on weekends.

*Regulations require that two consecutive samples be collected for bacteriological quality following the water being shut off. In order to restore full service as soon as possible, the Department of Health allows rescission of the precautionary boil water notice if the first sample is bacteriologically acceptable and the second sample meets certain general water quality standards. However, if the second sample is bacteriologically questionable or unacceptable, then this precautionary boil water notice will be reissued until two consecutive bacteriologically acceptable samples are demonstrated.

Hydrant Flushing on Island

Manatee County Utilities advises that crews will periodically flow fire hydrants on the Island from SR 64 to N. Bay Blvd. We will attempt to do most of the work between the hours of 9:00 P.M and 6:00 A.M.

During this time customers may experience intermittent low pressure and water may be evident in the streets as we progress through the island.

Please note that this is temporary and necessary to address low chlorine residuals in the system. Hydrant flowing will be minimized as much as possible and efforts will be made to limit any inconvenience. Additional flushing may be required intermittently over the next couple of months.

If you have any questions please contact Water Distribution at 792-8811 (Ext: 5268) between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
