Bill returns that would extend permitting lengths for alternative water supply projects

A bill dealing with water supply permitting that in 2012 sailed through the House without opposition before dying in the Senate is back.

HB 109 by Rep. Dana Young, R-Tampa, would allow utilities to receive permits for 30 years or more for using alternative sources of water, such as brackish or salt water.

"In Florida today, it is vital that we look to the construction of alternative water supply infrastructure and preserve our groundwater to the greatest extent possible," Young told The Florida Current on Tuesday.
