FWC, Defenders of Wildlife Collaborate on Climate Change Planning

News Image

Defenders of Wildlife is working with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Climate Change Team and Workgroups to define a process to incorporate climate change information into agency planning and decision making. This process will be designed to help guide agency efforts to develop an integrated climate change response strategy that can fulfill the needs of the State Wildlife Action Plan and other agency planning efforts.

This project is focused on two primary products: a guidance document and a set of three case studies. The guidance document will be a "one-stop" product providing the necessary background information and guidance for incorporating climate change into FWC activities. The second product will be a set of three case studies that will apply the knowledge of the climate change guidance document. The case studies will unpack the information from the guidance document and develop the decision-making process by which this information can be applied to existing planning efforts, such as the State Wildlife Action Plan, imperiled species plans, and Wildlife Management Area plans.
