Attend TBEP's "Sustainable Living in an Urban Setting" Workshop

The Tampa Bay Estuary Program is hosting a "Sustainable Living in an Urban Setting" workshop on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. at Gamble Creek Farm in Parrish, Florida. The $10.00 fee includes one morning workshop, one afternoon workshop and a boxed lunch.

Workshop Session I — 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
(Choose One)

  • Tour of the Farm - The tour will start with an explanation of Geraldson Community Farm conservative usage of irrigation. Eric will show you how they practice those techniques in the hydroponics and the drip irrigation in the field.
  • Organic Farming - From your Yard to your Table - Learn how to grow vegetables year round regardless of temperature * Using free materials for most all of garden needs * Harvesting weeds and seeds for extra bounty * Winning the "battle of the bugs".
  • Chickens in an Urban Setting - What the Cluck?-Learn about predator protection, providing proper living quarters and keeping happy chickens. The rewards: eggs, those glorious eggs!

Lunch-12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.
will be prepared by - MTI Baking & Pastry Chef Dana Johnson, using farm produce from the farm. Box lunches provided to all participants, volunteers and instructors.

Workshop Session II — 1:00-2:30 p.m.

  • Tour of the Farm-The tour will start with an explanation of Geraldson Community Farm conservative usage of irrigation. Eric will show you how they practice those techniques in the hydroponics and the drip irrigation in the field.
  • The Buzz on Bees-Learn how to set up your hive the correct way. Discover what tools you need, and which will just waste your time and money. Understand the difference between the different types of bees and why you need to know.
  • Digging It-How to use an Earth Box- Learn how to grow tomatoes, robust vegetables and aromatic herbs in any small space-a balcony, patio, or even rooftops!
