Florida Lake Management Society Annual Conference June 13-16
The FLMS 22nd Annual Conference is just eight weeks away. This year's venue is the St. Johns County Conference Center at the Renaissance Hotel just south of St. Augustine. The conference theme is Discovering the St. Johns River--a River of Lakes. Room reservations at the low conference rate are only guaranteed through May 23, or earlier if the block of rooms has been filled, so we hope you will make your reservations soon.
The conference starts on Monday, June 13 with workshops on classroom water science curricula, a training course with field training on the FDEP Lake Vegetation Index (LVI), and NPDES and TMDL Regulatory Considerations. Technical sessions run from Tuesday, June 14 through Thursday, June 16. Five session topics will be covered through presentation of 40 papers. These general sessions will cover these topics:
- The St. Johns River
- Watershed Assessment
- Watershed Management
- Education and Outreach
- Nutrient Criteria
A poster session will be held along with a welcoming social on Tuesday evening, June 14.
There are a lot of activities in the surrounding area to keep family members happy during the day. Beaches and national estuarine reserves are just minutes away, and outlet malls and IMAX are almost right next door. The St. Augustine area offers historical museums, forts and artists communities, and they have an active independent restaurant association offering excellent seafood and other culinary delights.
Registration for the full conference includes breakfast Tuesday through Thursday, lunch Tuesday and Wednesday and the evening social Tuesday. Single day registrations are also offered.
