Manatee County accepts $100,000 contribution from Mosaic for Duette Preserve

MANATEE – As part of its operating permit for the Wingate East Mine, Mosaic Fertilizer is required to contribute $100,000 toward wetlands improvements at the 23,000-acre Duette Preserve in East Manatee County, which filters drinking water from Lake Manatee Reservoir during times of drought.

Mosaic made that contribution Tuesday as part of a bigger public project to develop a 1,400-acre hydrologic model in conjunction with county staff. It's the latest influx of good news for Duette Preserve, which will see several acres of restoration at the expense of the Florida Department of Transportation in a deal to mitigate wetlands that will be destroyed during the reconstruction of the interchange at Interstate 75 at University Parkway and other planned roadwork.
